Pilates
Our friendly team of instructors are passionate about the benefits that Pilates can bring you.
All our instructors are experienced Physiotherapists. We believe this brings better results for our participants as we have thorough understanding of the human body in both healthy and unhealthy states.
WHAT IS PILATES?
Josef Pilates designed this form of exercise from his experience as a body builder, diver and gymnast. He suffered from rickets, rheumatic fever and asthma as a child directing him to maximise his strength and fitness. He believed that strong posture, efficient breathing and an active lifestyle are the foundation of health and wellness.
Josef pioneered and designed all methods and equipment used with the Pilates exercise principals.
On his move from Germany to the UK in 1912, he earned a living with boxing, circus performance and instructing self defence.
His relocation to New York in approximately 1925 saw him work with ballerinas and performers using his exercise methods until his death in 1967.
Ballerinas and performers to this day use Pilates as a part of their training and maintenance.
Physiotherapists have since developed it for rehabilitation purposes as it is safe, controlled and very
effective.
AIM:
To develop control of your core, postural strength and efficient breathing patterns. Our goal is to see these flow into your everyday activities to enhance your feeling of well being and keep your active for life.
Yes it is possible! We are seeing great results.
WHO CAN DO IT?
Anyone! We alter the exercises to accommodate injuries/conditions/pregnancy etc
OPTIONS: ONE ON ONE, MAT CLASS or machines
We guide you as needed, some people need one on one initially especially if their problem has been
longstanding; others slot straight into one of our mat classes.
Classes are one hour in duration with a maximum of 10 - 12 people per class.
We have Pilates Machines at our Matakana clinic, you can use them as part of your rehab, one on one with an instructor or on your own to maintain/build your fitness.
One on one sessions vary to the individual.
